Michael Dameski and Jake Evan Schwencke are Billy Elliot's Newest Billy and Michael

Michael Dameski and Jake Evan Schwencke will join the cast of the Tony Award-winning hit musical Billy Elliot, joining the rotation as Billy and Michael, respectively. A starting date for Dameski will be announced shortly; Schwencke begins performances on January 16. Additionally, Tony Award winner and original title star David Alvarez will play his final performance as Billy on January 3.

Billy Elliot currently stars Alvarez, Alex Ko, Trent Kowalik, Liam Redhead and Dayton Tavares as Billy, Kate Hennig as Mrs. Wilkinson, Gregory Jbara as Dad, Carole Shelley as Grandma, Will Chase as Tony and Trevor Braun and Keean Johnson as Michael.

Dameski, 14, who previously played Billy in the Melbourne production of Billy Elliot, makes his Broadway debut as the eighth boy to perform the role on the Rialto. A Sydney, Australia, native, Dameski is an accomplished competitive dancer in the jazz, tap, ballet, hip-hop and musical theatre genres. In 2005 he was named a Top 10 Dance Idol Finalist by the NIDA, going on to win Dance Champion of the World in his age bracket in Los Angeles in 2007.

Schwencke, 11, returns to Broadway after making his debut in the current Roundabout Theatre Company revival of Bye Bye Birdie. Additional stage credits include Distracted (Roundabout), Whistle Down the Wind and Fox Theatre Group's Les Miserables. Screen credits include Dora the Explorer and Ice Age 3.

Billy Elliot is the funny, heartwarming tale of a young boy with a dream, and a celebration of his triumph against the odds. Set against the historic British miners’ strike of the 1980s, the story follows Billy’s journey as a boy in a small mining town who, after stumbling across a ballet class while on his way to a boxing lesson, realizes that his future lay not in the boxing ring but on stage as a dancer.
